Cavelossim Beach

If it’s a near perfect blend of serenity mixed with a bit of excitement you want, hit Cavelossim beach, which is sandwiched between the southern end of Colva and northwards of Mobor. The beach stands out in stark contrast to the other beaches in South Goa, because of the formations of lava rocks which dot the sandy shores. The waterbed along this stretch of shore dips of a sudden as you wade in, so be a bit careful when you go out for a swim. And make sure you don’t cut on your feet on the rocks, which have very rough edges.

Weather

Sun in Goa, is quite like the pug you see in those Vodafone ads. It follows you everywhere for almost 8 months of the year. Winters here are as feeble as they come.

The weather alters only during the monsoons between mid May and September. If you aren’t in Goa during those times, be prepared for a 33 degrees Celsius summer with a maximum temperature of 39 degrees.

Best time to visit:

Goa’s great is summers and winters, but if sun-kissed beaches are not your only poison, its superlative in the monsoons. Conventionally popular visiting months are from October to March.

Major attractions

Goa’s peppered with small-rivers which empty themselves out into the Arabian Sea. It’s the Sal river ends into the sea as it weaves past the sand, into the azure water making for quite a resplendent confluence. The beach is also a favoured spot for water sports, although not as much as Mobor. You can also hire a mechanised fishing boat and head into the sea for a spot of dolphin sighting. Boat services can also be hired to ride into the Sal River for a short cruise. Tourists queue up for one of those immensely popular romantic sunset cruises along the Sal River. The lava rocks too have schools of crabs scampering around them. Try and not get nipped by one of them, as you chase them around. The popularity of the beach amongst tourists has also resulted in several shacks being erected at the beaches, which are made of coconut thatch and serve delicious Goan fare and liquor.

Shopping

Cavelossim like a lot of the other popular beaches in Goa is also lined up with stalls selling a lot of trinkets and artifacts, which are good to be packed for home as mementos of your visit to Goa. Try the hand-dyed clothes sold by exotic looking vendors from the tribal belt of Karnataka, which are a hot favorite with foreigners visiting Goa.

Vital Tourist Information

Hotel availability

Cavelossim will not let down a visitor. There are numerous hotels, both budget and starred, which start from the village and end up right next to the beach.
