Shimla
Sometimes, this city quietly ruminate the royal glory of the bygone era through its aesthetically built Victorian buildings. In some other cold nights, the city is just a small girl sleeping peacefully in her mother’s lap with a white cover of snow protecting her from the ruthlessly chilling cold. For such a small city and such a tiny area nestled on the high mountains, Shimla has an amazingly diverse menu of natural splendor and historically important architectural majesty for the tourists. Welcome aboard!
Orientation
Sitting high and pretty amidst some of the most picturesque mountains in the country, Shimla absorbs you in her natural beauty like few other places ever can. It’s not for nothing that the British named it the summer capital of India and left their indelible marks all over this place with Victorian architecture. The city is one of the few places in India that has banned traffic in many places, just to preserve the sanctity of the place and the pristine nature.
Weather
Chill dude, its cold out here. The weather is mostly cold and if you venture out of your hotel in winter, when the land appears as if some impatient trader has scattered his cotton balls all over the place, you can have the time of your life, especially if you happen to be from one of those places where anything below room temperature is considered chilling!
Getting there/ Route Information
Flights
Although there are direct flights from Delhi to Shimla, they are rare and may not suit your travel plan to the core. Chandigarh, which is a four hour drive from Shimla offers better options as almost all the major Airlines of India provide their services to this place. You can take a prepaid taxi from Chandigarh to Shimla. Do not forget to check out the Dhabas on your way.
Road Quality
While road quality is not exactly amazing, it won’t give needless Goose-bumps either.

Major Attractions
Jakhu Temple: According to the epic tale of Ramayana, Lord Hanuman rested on this hill while he was on his way to Lanka. Since you cannot fly, you must be prepared to climb at least one and half hours up the hill. But wait! Lord Hanuman didn’t have the technology of four wheelers back then. We do have it and we can drive our way up. One view from the top and you will understand why Lord Hanuman rested here even though he had such an important work to do!
But heck, you go to Shimla to soak in the chilling weather rather than counting the bricks in the wall, right?! Then you have a hell lot of things to do. You can try ice skating, take a royal walk along the scenic heights of Shimla, or just stare out of your hotel room window, watching the snow fall down as if the a giant machine is pouring down ice cream into the ever so hungry belly of mother earth. But remember, the ice cream is seasonal and you better make sure that there is snowfall happening in this place; if that’s on the top of your ‘to see’ list in Shimla.
As we told before, Shimla has a lot to offer!
